Lincoten

Drug Category: Antibiotic

Drug Form: Sterile Injectable Solution.

Composition: Each ml of the drug contains 100 mg of base lincomycin as a hydrochloride salt.

Mechanism of Actions:

Lincomycin binds exclusively to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and suppresses protein synthesis. Lincomycin is active against Gram- Positive organisms including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Clostridium Tetani, and Mycoplasma Spp and Clostridium Perfringens. Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic similar in action to aminoglycosides. Spectinomycin bind to 30 S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and suppress protein synthesis. Spectinomycin is active against a wide range of pathogens, particularly Gram - negative organisms and mycoplasma.

Pharmacokinetics:

Lincomycin is well absorbed after intramuscular injection and its maximum plasma concentration is reached 1 to 2 hours after injection. Lincomycin is distributed in most body fluids and tissues, such as bone, but not in CSF fluid. Lincomycin is metabolized in the liver. Many metabolites are excreted in bile, urine, and milk. The half-life of lincomycin is less than 3 hours.

Indications:

This drug is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to lincomycin Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are especially used in ruminants, dogs and cats.

Dogs and cats: Treatment of laryngitis, upper respiratory tract infections, abscesses, infectious wounds and purulent dermatitis.

Dosages and Administration Routs:

Ruminants: 5 to 10 mg per kilogram of body weight every 12 hours intramuscularly.

Dogs and cats: 15 mg per kg body weight every 12 hours intramuscularly.

Adverse and Common Side Effects:

Hypersensitivity reactions may occur after taking this drug. There is a possibility of pain and local stiffness after administration of the drug.

Drug Interactions:

Concomitant use of lincosamides with aminoglycosides, spectinomycin, metronidazole and sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim increases their effectiveness. Clinical antagonism has been observed between lincomycin and erythromycin, so it is recommended to avoid the concomitant use of these two drugs.

Contra Indication:

Lincomycin has been associated with Lethal Complication in horses. Not to be used in animals hypersensitive to Lincomycin

Withdrawal time: Meat: 7 days after last treatment.

Milk: 4 days after last treatment.
