Pharmaceutical Form: Sterile Injectable Solution

Composition: Each ml of Solution contains 50 mg of Tylosin base activity

MECHANISM OF ACTIONS: Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic with activity against gram – negative and gram-positive bacteria, spirochetes, chlamydia, and mycoplasma organisms. Macrolides interfere with protein synthesis by reversibly binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome. They appear to bind at the donor site, thus preventing the translocation necessary to keep the peptide chain growing.

 PHARMACOKINETICS: Tylosin is rapidly absorbed after injection. The plasmahalf – lives of macrolides usually are 1-3 hr, and apparent volumes of distribution of 1000-2000 ml/kg reflect the extensive tissue distribution. Effective inhibitory concentrations are maintained for 12-24 hr after IM injection. Dosage frequencies are commonly 1-2 times /day parenterally.

 INDICATIONS:
Tylosin is indicated in all conditions associated with bacteria sensitive to Tylosin which includes organisms in the following genera:
Streptococcus , Bacillus , Staphylococcus , Corynebacterium Clostridium , vibrio , Spirochetes , mycoplasma , Fusiformis , Pasteurella , Chlamydia . General indications include upper respiratory tract infections.
Bronchopneumonia, bacterial enteritis, metritis, pyodermitis, Urinary tract infections and arthritis.Acute Agalactia from mycoplasma.agalactiae .

 Dosages and administration:
Tylosin should be given by intramuscular injection.
10 mg per kg bodyweight for 3-5 days:

Sheep: For treatment of abortion from chlamidiae: 400 mg for 2 days.

 ADVERSE AND COMMON SIDE EFFECT:
Toxicity and side effects are uncommon for most Macrolides although pain and Swelling may occur at injection sites. Hypersensitivity reactions have occasionally been seen. Anorexia, diarrhea, and local pain with intramuscular injection are reported.

Contra- indication:
Injection of Tylosin in horses has been fatal. Do not use in human

Drug Interactions:
Tylosin may increase serum digitalis levels.

 With drawal times:
Milk: 3 days from last injection
Meat: 21 days from last injection

Pharmaceutical Precautions:
Store at room temperature, not exceeding 30º C, protected from light .Do not freeze.
