Kanapen 2+2

Drug category:Antibiotic

Pharmaceutical form: Sterile Powder For injectable Suspension

Composition: Each vial contains 2000,000 IU
Penicillin G Procaine+ 2 g Kanamycin as Sulfate

Mechanism of Action:
Penicillin's exert their bactericidal effects by preventing cell wall synthesis and disrupting bacteria cell wall integrity. kanamycin has a spectrum, affecting mainly Gram-negative bacteria. It has poor activity against Streptococci, corynebacteria and clostridia. Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with activity against Staphylococcus aureus and albus, klebsiella pneumonia, salmonella spp, Pasteurella, corynebacterium spp, Bacillus anthracis, proteus spp, E. coli and A. aerobacter. It penetrates most body fluids other than spinal fluid.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Penicillin G is rapidly absorbed when injected in aqueous suspension by the IM rout. Maximum blood concentrations result in 15- 30 minutes. Penicillin G in blood is in plasma and less than 10% is found in erythrocytes. Penicillin G is partially metabolized in the body by unknown mechanisms, however; approximately 90% of the drug is excreted unchanged. The distribution of penicillin is rapid but not uniform in various fluids and tissues. Penicillin G is excreted primarily in urine, 60- 100% of the dose is ordinarily recovered from urine following infection of an aqueous solution. Kanamycin is rapidly absorbed after IM injection. Peak serum concentrations are obtained within an hour and kanamycin readily diffuses in most body fluids. Excretion of the drug is almost entirely by glomerular filtration.

INDICATIONS:
Penicillin / Kanamycin injection is indicated for use in cattle, horses and sheep for the treatment of infections caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to penicillin and / or kanamycin including: Navel/ joint ill , respiratory tract infections including pneumonia, listeriosis, meningitis, septicemia, urogenital tract infections, Actinomycosis, Anthrax,…

Dosage and Administration:
Administer By deep IM injection
Cattle, Horse: 3,000-10,000 IU / kg bodyweight per 24 hr.
Sheep, goats: 5,000- 10,000 IU/ kg bodyweight per 24 hr.
Dogs & Cats: 10,000-20,000 IU/kg bodyweight per 24 hr.

ADVERSE ANDCOMMON SIDE EFFECTS:
Impairment of vestibular function or irreversible loss may occur if dosage is excessive or use prolonged.
Nephrotoxicity may occur, especially in toxic, poorly hydrated patients. Hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin's are the most common untoward reaction and can occur with any penicillin group.

Contra- indications, warning, etc:
Do not administer by intravenous injection.
Not to be administered to animals know to be sensitive to penicillin.

Drug Interactions:
Probenecid markedly decreases the tubular secretion of the penicillin's. The potential for ototoxicity increases if kanamycin is used with other aminoglycosides.
Furosemide Potentiates ototoxicity.

Withdrawal time:
Milk: 3days after last treatment.
Meat: 10 days after last treatment.

Pharmaceutical Precautions:
Store at room temperature, not exceeding 25OC .
Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
