Tetroxy 10

Drug Category:  Antibiotic

 Pharmaceutical Form: Sterile Injectable Solution

Composition: Each ml of Solution contains 100 mg oxytetracycline as HCl

:Mechanism of Actions
Oxytetracycline is a broad – spectrum antibiotic, highly effective against a large number of pathogenic organisms. Its action is bacteriostatic and based on the inhibition of glutamic acid metabolism in the cells, thus blocking the synthesis bacterial proteins. Oxytetracycline inhibits most gram- positive bacterial, some gram
– negative bacteria, rickettsiae, mycoplasmas, spirochetes, and actinomycetes. Oxytetracycline binds reversibly to bacterial 30S ribosomes and in hibit protein synthesis, perhaps by several mechanisms. Mainly, the binding of aminoacyl- tRNA to the acceptor site on the mRNA- ribosome complex seems to be impaired

:Pharmacokinetics
After parenteral administration the drug rapidly penetrates the blood and tissues where high levels are attained.
As it binds to serum proteins at a relatively high percentage efficacious levels are maintained in the organism over a prolonged period of time when administered at therapeutic dosages. It is thus sufficient to administer the drug every 24 hours.

:INDICATIONS
Oxytetracycline is active against awide range of Gram- positive and Gram-Negative pathogenic bacteria, certain rickettsia. Oxytetracycline is indicated in the treatment and control of a wide range of common systemic respiratory, gastro- intestinal, urinary, local infections, Metritis, pyodermitis, anaplasmosis.

:Dosages and administration
By deep intramuscular or SC injection.
10-20 mg per kg bodyweight for 3-5 days:

 :ADVERSE AND COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
High doses of tetracyclines have incriminated in causing renal failure in feed lot cattle
Occasional hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
General toxicity is low although collapse has been reported with tetracycline in week or debilited animals.

:Contra- indication, warning, etc
Rapid IV injection of a oxytetracycline can produce hypotension and sudden collapse. Oxytetracycline is also potentially nephrotoxic and is contraindicated in renal insufficiency.
Swelling, necrosis, and yellow discoloration at the injection site almost inevitably occur.

:Pharmaceutical Precautions
Store in room temperature, not exceeding 30° C, protected from light. Do not freeze.
