Penicillin's exert their bactericidal effects by preventing cell wall synthesis and disrupting bacteria cell wall integrity. Dihydrostreptomycin has bactericidal effect This drug exert his antibacterial action by irreversibility binding to the 30S Subunit of the bacterial ribosome and thereby interfering with several mechanisms in the mRNA translation process.

Stropen 3+3

Drug Category: Antibiotic

Dosage form: Sterile Powder For Injectable Suspension.

Composition: Each vial contains: 3000,000 IU Penicillin G Procaine
+ 3 g dihydrostreptomycin

Mechanism of Action:
Penicillin's exert their bactericidal effects by preventing cell wall synthesis and disrupting bacteria cell wall integrity. Dihydrostreptomycin has bactericidal effect This drug exert his antibacterial action by irreversibility binding to the 30S Subunit of the bacterial ribosome and thereby interfering with several mechanisms in the mRNA translation process.
The combination of penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin is especially useful in the treatment of mixed infections involving both Gram-positive and Gram- negative organisms.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Penicillin G is rapidly absorbed when injected in aqueous suspension by the IM or SC rout. Maximum blood concentrations result in 15- 30 minutes. Penicillin G in blood is in plasma and less than 10% is found in erythrocytes. Penicillin G is partially metabolized in the body by unknown mechanisms, however; approximately 90% of the drug is excreted unchanged. The distribution of penicillin is rapid but not uniform in various fluids and tissues. Penicillin G is excreted primarily in urine, 60- 100% of the dose is ordinarily recovered from urine following infection of an aqueous solution. In cattle, Dihydrostreptomycin serum peaks were obtained 1 hour after IM injection. Dihydrostreptomycin is rapidly distributed after parenteral administration. The drug is in extracellular fluids and apparently bound to plasma proteins. Following IM injection, Dihydrostreptomycin is excreted primarily in urine at about one- half its concentration in blood.

INDICATIONS:
Penicillin / Dihydrostreptomycin injection is indicated for use in cattle , horses ,sheep , dogs and cats for the treatment of infections caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to penicillin and / or Dihydrostreptomycin including: corynebacterium pyogenes , klebsiella pneumonia , Listeria spp, pasteurella haemolytica, pasteurella . multocida, staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and salmonella spp. This drug therefore be effective in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organism including : Navel/joint ill , respiratory tract infections including pneumonia and atrophic rhinitis , Listeriosis , meningitis, septicemia, toxemia associated with Mastitis , urogenital tract infections, enteritis associated with salmonella spp., salmonellosis and the control of secondary bacteria invaders in diseases a of primary viral origin .

Dosages:
Cattle, horses:  5,000- 15,000 IU per kg body weight per 24 hr.
Sheep, goat: 8,000- 15,000 IU Per kg bodyweight per 24 hr.
Dog, cat: 10,000-20,000 IU Per kg bodyweight per 24 hr.

Administration Routes:Administer by Intramuscular injection.

Adverse and common side effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin's are the most common untoward reaction and can occur with any penicillin group.
Allergic reactions to these substances are occasionally serious.
Dihydrostreptomycin can potentiate the action of neuromuscular blocking agents leading to respiratory depression apnea, or muscle weakness, especially in animals with renal insufficiency. Furosemide may enhance the ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity of Dihydrostreptomycin.

Drug interactions: Furosemide may enhance the ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity of Dihydrostreptomycin.

Contra- Indication, warning, etc:
In animals show anaphylactic reaction to penicillin should not be used.
Do not use in animals with renal and hepatic insufficiency.
Animals treated by the penicillin should be under care for at least half hour.

Withdrawal times:
Milk: 3 days from last treatment
Meat: 30 days from the last treatment.
