Mechanism of action:

Cefquinome of the cephalosporin group and the fourth generation of this group. The mechanism of action of cephalosporins is similar to that of penicillins and bactericides. Cephalosporins bind to penicillin-binding proteins present in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane and inhibit the bacterium by interfering with the action of transpeptidase and other enzymes involved in cell wall formation. Cell division and growth are also inhibited, Sensitive bacteria are often slipped and killed. Cefquinome is widely used and is effective against many bacteria, including Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus and Enterococcus.

Pharmacokinetics:

Absorbed rapidly after drug injection. all over the body, including the kidneys, lungs, joints, and soft tissues, and reaches a maximum plasma concentration 45 minutes after injection. The drug is metabolized in the liver. The half-life of the drug is two and a half hours. The main route of excretion of Cefquinome is through urinary and renal filtration. There is also some excretion without change.

Indications:

Cattle: Treatment of respiratory diseases caused by Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella. multocida, Treatment of mastitis caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), Dermatitis, Fingertip necrosis,

Foals  and calves: Treatment of sepsis caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli)

Horse: Treatment of respiratory diseases caused by Streptococcus zooepidemicus

Dosage and Administration Routs:

Cattle: Administer by intramuscular injection at the dosage of 1 mg/kg of body weight (1ml reconstituted sterile solution per 45 kg bodyweight). Once a day for 5 to 10 days. Stop treatment 2 days after recovery.

Horses: Administer by intramuscular injection at the dosage of 1 mg/kg of body weight (1ml reconstituted sterile solution per 45 kg bodyweight). Once a day for 5 to 10 days. Stop treatment 2 days after recovery.

Foals: Administer by intramuscular injection at the dosage of 1 mg/kg of body weight (1ml reconstituted sterile solution per 45 kg bodyweight). 2 times a day for 6 to 14 days. Stop treatment 3 days after recovery.

calves: Administer at the dosage of 2 mg/kg of body weight (2ml reconstituted sterile solution per 45 kg bodyweight). Once a day for 3 to 5 days.

Reconstitution of the sterile powder: By adding 30 ml of solvent into the vial, the solution is injected. Shake well after adding solvent.

Side effects:

One of the most common side effects of cephalosporins is hypersensitivity reactions due to the structural similarity of this drug with penicillin. Usually, sensitivity to one of them is accompanied by hypersensitivity to the other. The use of Cefquinome with aminoglycosides may intensify the renal toxicity of aminoglycosides.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals which are known to be hypersensitive to cephalosporin, especially Cefquinome.

Withdrawal time:  Meat: 5 days.

                                Milk: Less than 12 hours.

Pharmaceutical precautions:

Keep vials of powder and solvent at room temperature (less than 30 ° C) and away from light. After preparing the vial according to the method of taking the drug, keep it in the refrigerator for 10 days at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Discard the medicine after this time.

Packaging: Sterile powder in the 1.35 gram vial and solvent in 30 ml vials.
