Dosage Form: Sterile Powder For Injectable Solution
Category: Antibiotic
Composition: Dihydrostreptomycin Sulfate eq.to 3g base per vial
Mechanism of Actions
Dihydrostreptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Dihydrostreptomycin exert their antibacterial action by irreversibly binding to the 30 S Subunit of the bacterial ribosome and thereby interfering with several mechanisms in the mRNA translation process
PHARMACOKINETICS
In cattle, dihydrostreptomycin serum peaks were obtained 1 hour after IM injection. Dihydrostreptomycin is rapidly distributed after parenteral administration. The drug is present in extracellular fluids and apparently bound to plasma proteins. Following IM injection, Dihydrostreptomycin is excreted primarily in urine at about one – half its concentration in blood. The normal kidney excretes about two – thirds of a Tm dose within 24 hours
INDICATIONS
Dihydrostreptomycin is active against a wide range of Gram – negative organisms and some Gram – positive pathogenes. It is indicated in the treatment of organisms Sensitive to dihydrostreptomycin. Among the more Sensitive to Dihydrostreptomycin in vitro are Actinobacillus equie , A. lignieri , Actinomyces bovis , Brucella spp , E.coli, Haemophilus spp, klebsiella spp,Leptospira canicola and L.icterohaemorragica , pseudomonas aeuroginosa and Some Species of Proteus ,Pasteurella and Salmonella
Dosages and Administration
10 mg / kg bodyweight, each 12 hours Up to 3-5 days. By deep IM injection
ADVERSE AND COMMON STDE EFFECT
Toxic levels can cause renal tubular damage. Avoid use with other aminoglycosides because of potential additive toxic effects. The drug causes transient pain on injection. Ototoxicity can occur but is difficult to detect clinically. Weakness from neuromuscular blockade can also occur
Contra – indication, Warning, etc
Hypersensitivity reactions to dihydrostreptomycin are the most untoward reaction Excessive and Prolonged administration Can lead to interference with balance and hearing. In extreme Cases damage can be PermanentNot to be used in animals sensitive to dihydrostreptomycin. Dihydrostreptomycin should not is administered intravenously
Drug Interactions
Concurrent Use of furosemide can increase the ototoxic Potential and Predispose to renal tubular damage
