VitEsel

Category: Vitamin+ mineral

Dosage Form: Sterile Injectable Solution.

Composition: Vitamin E (dl - a - tocopherol acetate) 50 mg/ml,
Sodium Selenite 0.5 mg/ml.

MECHANISM OF ACTIONS: Functions of vitamin E in animal appears to be as an antioxidant . It functions in preventing lipid oxidation and prolonging the biologic life of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
The decrease in peroxide formation can be considered as having a stabilizing effect on cell membranes containing polyunsaturated fatty acids.
The predominant action of the tocopherols would appear to be that of regulating the oxidation processes of the body.
This antioxidant action links vitamin E with vitamin A metabolism (it is used for the stabilizing of vitamin A in foodstuff), and with that of the unsaturated fatty acids.
It is probable that it is this antioxidant protecting action on unsaturated fatty acid which is responsible for the conditioned vitamin E deficiency that has occurred fairly widely due to regular feeding of excessive quantities of cod-liver oil , though it has been pointed out that various other factors , including mineral imbalances , influence the course of this type of deficiency .

Uses: For the prevention and treatment of the various Syndromes which are associated with deficiency of vitamin E and /or selenium in horses, Cattle and sheep

Prophylactic indications:
1/  on farms in known Selenium – deficient Soil areas.
2/ When diets low in vitamin E are fed e.g. diets containing high levels of moist – Stored  grains , or maize silage .
3/ On farms where there is a history  of vitamin E and / selenium deficiency   as may be indicated by poor breeding  Performance , excessive  transport Stress , nutritional  muscular dystrophy in young animals on turning out to graze .

Therapeutic indications:
For the treatment of the various manifestations of nutritional muscular dystrophy
( white muscle disease , nutritional myopathy) affecting cardiac and/or Skeletal muscles and associated Symptoms in Species mentioned below .

Dosages and Administration:
Administer by Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. (In horses by IM injection only) .

Treatment: Cattle, 30 ml, Calves: 10 ml, Ewes: 5 ml & lambs: 1-2 ml per 2-4 weeks.

Prevention:
For prevention of nutritional muscular dystrophy: calves, lambs: 0.1 mg per kg body weight
Cattle and horse : 0.1 – 0.15 mg per kg body weight .

For prevention of white muscle disease. Ewe: 10 ml, Cattle: 30 ml 4 weeks before parturition by SC injection.
Dosage will depend on the Severity of the deficiency and / or Symptoms.

For Prophylaxis: one injection at intervals of three month will normally be sufficient.

For therapy: injection maybe repeated at weekly intervals as necessary.
