IsoSaline

Drug Category: Electrolyte

Pharmaceutical Form: Sterile Injectable Solution.

Composition: Each ml contains 9 mg of sodium chlorid

Mechanism of action:

Sodium chloride is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution used to compensate for fluids and electrolytes in livestock. Sodium is one of the most important extracellular fluid cations, with the most important role in controlling the distribution of water, maintaining electrolyte balance, and maintaining the osmotic pressure of body fluids. Chloride is the predominant extracellular anion and, together with sodium cation, plays an important role in maintaining the acid-base balance and cellular electrolytes.

Indications:

Sodium chloride solution is used to treat hyponatremia, hypochloremia, management of hypochloremic alkalosis and acute hypovolemia and can lead to a rapid increase in plasma volume and improved vascular blood flow. It is also used to dilute some drugs for intravenous or slow intravenous injection.

Amount and method of consumption:

For intravenous administration of this solution, the amount and duration of use depends on the age, weight and clinical condition of the animal, which should be measured by a veterinarian. It should be prescribed with great care in very young and old animals.

The following tables provide general recommendations for consumption:

Side effects:

Reactions that may occur due to the solution or administration technique include fever, injection site infection, venous thrombosis or phlebitis at the injection site, and hypervolemia. In event of adverse reaction, stop the injection, the patient assessment, and take appropriate countermeasures.

Overdose may lead to hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, dehydration, serum hyperosmolarity, and hyperclarramic acidosis.

Drug interactions:

Drugs that cause sodium retention (eg, corticosteroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) that may cause edema or swelling. Possible incompatibilities should be considered when mixing with other medicinal products.

Withdrawal Period: Nil.

Pharmaceutical precautions: Store at a temperature below 25 ° C and away from light. Protect from frost and high heat. The solution should be warmed to about 37 ° C before administration and should be used immediately after first opening the product container.
