Dextrovet 50

Drug Category: Electrolytes

Drug Form: Sterile solution for injection

Composition: Each ml contains 500 mg of glucose monohydrate

Mechanism of action:

Dextrovet 50 is given by intravenous infusion, a medium for calorie supply in cases where fluid and calorie replacement therapy is required. Dextrose is a monosaccharide that is used as an energy source in the body and is converted to pyruvate during glycolysis, resulting, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the most important energy metabolite, is produced. In some cases, for example, around childbirth, the production of body ketones in the liver increases due to delivery problems and due to reduced carbohydrates, etc.(Ketosis), gradual administration of dextrose is very effective in solving the problem of livestock. Injectable dextrose solutions are used as a source of calories and fluids (each gram of glucose monohydrate releases 3.4 calories of energy). Injectable dextrose may cause diuresis. This substance reduces the loss of protein and nitrogen and accelerates the formation of glycogen. Injected glucose is easily metabolized and converted to water and carbon dioxide by oxidation.

Indications:

1. As an adjunctive treatment in case of glucose deficiency . hypoglycemia, dehydration, dehydration, hyperkalemia and as an immediate source of energy

2. In surgery to prevent hypoglycemia during surgery

3. In order to create mild diuresis in the treatment of poisoning and excretion of toxemia

4. In the treatment of infectious shock and tissue perfusion insufficiency

5. Use in the treatment of wounds with ischemia ‌ tissue and reduced blood circulation

6. Energy supply in livestock with ketosis

Dosages and Administration Route:

250-250 ml in horses and cattle, 150-50 ml in sheep depending on the weight and condition of the animal should be infused by slow intravenous injection. Warm the solution to body temperature before consuming. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated from a few hours to a few days later, depending on the condition and the opinion of the veterinarian.

Recommended tips:

Improper intravenous injection o

f the drug may cause phlebitis and blood clots at the injection site. To avoid this, it is best to use an intravenous angiocatheter for injection.

Side effects:

Diarrhea, fever, infection at the injection site, phlebitis and venous thrombosis, increased respiration, hyperglycemia and blood clots at the injection site are possible side effects of this drug.

Drug Interactions:

Dextrose has no known serious or moderate interactions with other drugs.

Contraindications:

Injection of sugar solutions in water and electrolyte disturbances alone is prohibited. It is best to infuse with other sugar and salt solutions that contain electrolytes. The use of sugar solutions with a concentration higher than 10% in electrolyte disorders is prohibited even in combination with other solutions.

It is forbidden to inject a sugar solution into an animal that has anuria.

Avoid co-injection of dextrose with blood through an infusion device as it causes lysis of blood cells.
