Drug Category:  Minerals.

Pharmaceutical Form: Sterile Injectable Solution.

Composition:Each ml Contains 400 mg Magnesium Sulfate.   

Mechanism of Actions:
Magnesium ion is essential for normal bone metabolism, normal nerve function and muscle irritability. Magnesium also plays an essential part in the Coenzyme system which links normal carbohydrate metabolism with phosphate metabolism and the provision of energy for muscle contraction. Around 70% of the body magnesium is found in bone, 20% in the intracellular fluid, and 1% in the extracellular fluid. Several endocrine hormones have been shown to influence plasma magnesium Concentrations e.g. . Parathormone, aldosterone and calcitonin, but the precise mechanisms of regulation of magnesium homeostasis remain to be determined.

PHARMACOKINTCS:
Magnesium rapidly is absorbed after Intravenous injection and shows its effectiveness. If injected subcutaneously, this effect takes about one hour. Approximately 35 % is bounded to plasma proteins. This drug is excreted by kidneys.

INDICATIONS:
Magnesium Sulfate is indicated in all Conditions associated with magnesium deficiencies including:
Abomasal Impaction, Lactation Tetani, Hypomagmesmic tetani of calves, parturient paresis with Hypomagnesaemia

DOSAGE:
Cattle: 100 – 200 ml, Calves: 25 – 30 ml, Sheep: 10 – 15 ml
Cats & dogs: 2.5 – 7.5 ml

Administration Routs:
This drug should be administered by Subcutaneous or slow IV injection warm to body temperature before use.

ADVERSE AND COMMON SIDE EFFECTS:
Intravenous infusion is hazardous but sometimes indicated in severe cases.  It should be performed quietly and slowly after the owner of the animal has been informed of the risk of precipitating Cardiac arrest. Magnesium ion is depressant to the sinoatrial node the Conducting System and the myocardium. Pulse – rate monitoring during infusion is, therefore, advisable.

Pharmaceutical precautions:
Store at room temperature, not exceeding 30^OC, protected from light. Do not freeze.
